We have come to the half way point of our first session for the 2023 USA Pool league! This session is set for 8 weeks and currently consisting of 6 teams in the southern California area mixed with a wide range of skill. Breaking out early in the session we have ‘The Junction 5’ team consisting of Garrett Fuerte, Ivan Tapia, Shannon Lee, Chris Ramirez and his son Ryan Ramirez. This is their first year competing in any form of league play and came out strong to establish their ratings cementing themselves as viable contenders for first! They currently trail the pack leaders 3-1.
Leading the pack is Charles’ Angels consisting of a mix of both experienced and brand new league players. Their team has decades of knowledge between Charles Pinkett and Jimmy Shafer alone. They help to shape the other half of their core four Martin Meza and Lisa Kessenich both of whom being very capable players themselves but with less than one year of league play between them. They lead this session 4 wins and 0 losses!
In a fight for the top spot we have the Good Timers consisting of John English, Kristen Gimme, Arnold Castellanos and his son Angel Castellanos. Currently the standings for the top three are neck and neck all being within a few hundred points which could sway in anyones favor on any particular league night illustrating how fair and balanced the USAPL’s handicap system is . The top spot for the year will have a paid trip to Las Vegas to compete in the 2024 USA Pool League championships by CueSports International (CSI) regularly held at the Rio Hotel. SoCal USAPL is a dual sanctioned league by CSI run with FargoRate.
SoCal USAPL will have 2 weeks off (2/26-3/5) before coming back to finish this abbreviated session in order to attend the CueSports International Expo and cheer on its members who met qualification standards to compete in this years Nationals tournament! March 26th, 2023 will mark the end of our first session of this year and will return May 7, 2023 to begin our Summer Session for a longer series.
